I2C based serial interface can be used for speed control by setting SPEED_MODE to 10b. In this mode, the duty command can be written directly into DIGITAL_SPEED_CTRL register and the SPEED pin can be independently used to control the sleep entry and exit. If SPEED pin input is < VEN_SL for a time longer than SLEEP_ENTRY_TIME, MCF8316A enters sleep state irrespective of the I2C duty command in DIGITAL_SPEED_CTRL register. When SPEED pin > VEX_SL, MCF8316A exits sleep state and speed is controlled through DIGITAL_SPEED_CTRL register. If DIGITAL_SPEED_CTRL register is set to 0 and SPEED pin > VEX_SL, MCF8316A is in standby state.
