8.2.1.3 Bus Loading for RS-485 Network

The RS-485 standard specifies that a compliant driver must be able to drive 32 unit loads (UL), where 1 unit load represents a load impedance of approximately 12 kΩ. Because the THVD4431 in RS-485 half and full duplex mode consists of 1/8 UL transceivers which represents load resistance of approximately 96 kohm, connecting up to 256 receivers to the bus is possible for a limited common mode range of - 7 V to 12 V.
