JAJSP20 November 2024 TPD4S480
PRODUCTION DATA
In this application example we study the protection requirements for a USB Type-C DRP Port, fully equipped with USB-PD, and 240W charging. The TPS26750 is used to easily enable a DRP port. Both the CC and SBU pins are susceptible to shorting to the VBUS pin. With 240W charging, VBUS operates at 48V, requiring the CC and SBU pins to tolerate 48VDC. With these protection requirements present for the USB Type-C connector, the TPD4S480 is used.
Table 7-1 lists the TPD4S480 design parameters.
DESIGN PARAMETER | EXAMPLE VALUE |
---|---|
VBUS nominal operating voltage | 48V |
Short-to-VBUS tolerance for the CC and SBU pins | 63V |
VBIAS nominal capacitance | 0.1µF |
Dead battery charging | 240W |
Maximum ambient temperature requirement | 85°C |
The recommended MOSFET settings for Q8, as shown in Table 7-2, are as follows:
VDS (V) | VGS (V) | Type | RDS (on) |
---|---|---|---|
> = 30V | > = 15V | N-channel | < = 10mOhms (3A max Q8
current) < = 20mOhms (1.5A max Q8 current) |
