6.4 Device Functional Modes

In light load condition, the TPS55287 can work in PFM or forced PWM mode to meet different application requirements. PFM mode decreases switching frequency to reduce the switching loss, thus it gets high efficiency at light load condition. FPWM mode keeps the switching frequency unchanged to avoid undesired low switching frequency, but the efficiency becomes lower than that of PFM mode.

By default, the TPS55287 works in PFM mode. To set the device in forced PWM mode, write the FPWM bit in the MODE register to 1.
