When the VDD domain is supplied first on a completely unpowered device, the device will start with the asynchronous sequence of the device PMU. The device will start normally as if the VBAT domain is powered.
The difference is only related to the unavailability of the LFCLK for use in the device.
The VBAT-detector (which is powered by the VDD domain) will indicate the VBAT supply is not present yet and therefore ignore all digital signals from the VRTC domain. Since the VBAT domain contains the LFCLK circuit, there will be no LFCLK available in the device. This specifically means the device cannot go into STANBY mode, because the 32kHz is required for the STANDBY mode.
