Each LCD segment is connected between a SEG pin and a COM pin. A light source illuminates the LCD panel and the segments either allow or block the propagation of light depending on the Vrms voltage applied between the SEG and COM terminals of the segment. The state of the LCD segment( blocking or allowing propagation of light) flips when Vrms is greater than the minimum threshold. Please note that it is required that Vdc across each segment is 0V for correct LCD operation.
