The BeagleBoard uses blind vias that are 6mil in diameter and are laser drilled.
Laser vias are typically drilled through reinforced FR-4 material that is 0.002” thick or less. There is standard FR-4 or laser drillable FR-4 that uses a more uniform glass weave. The laser drillable (LD) glass has a cost adder to it, but produces a smoother wall hole surface which makes filling and capping easier.
The minimum average copper plating thickness for a laser blind via hole should be specified as 0.0005” or as In accordance with IPC-6012A, class 2.
