5.4.2 In Depth

The Embedded Pattern Generator (EPG) module is a customizable pattern and clock generator that could servemany test and application scenarios that require a simple pattern generator or a periodic clock generator. TheEPG module can also be used to capture an incoming serial stream of data. The EPG module allows users todesign new clock generators,pulse width modulators (PWMs), serial communication modules, and so forth.

The EPG module can be used as an independent peripheral or it can be used along side other peripherals suchas CAN. When used alongside other peripherals, such as CAN, EPG can provide signal patterns for testing andrunning diagnostic inside the C2000™ device.

When used for clock generation, the EPG can generate:

  • Independent serial data stream generation
  • Serial data stream and the associated clock generation(#GUID-DEC35057-3F8D-4D38-B8A1-7FB292DDC078)
  • Skew clock with respect to serial data
  • Synchronous data stream with programmable offset with respect to one another
