Cio(off) for a through switch is the off-state capacitance of one channel, measured from either the input or output of the switch. For a multiplexer or bus-exchange switch, Cio(off) may include off-state capacitance for multiple channels. Cio(off) should be as small as possible to prevent capacitive loading of the bus. Reducing Cio requires less drain and source area of the pass transistors that otherwise would increase on-state resistance. So, there is a trade-off between Cio(off) and ron.
