  FibreChannel & Gigabit Ethernet

FibreChannel

Overview

  • Set of ANSI (American National Standards Institute) standards
  • Serial full-duplex communication @ 1.0625 GBaud - 100 MBytes/sec Throughput
  • Primary use initially for large, fast disk arrays for workstation market
  • Fiber optics or copper media
  • High Speed Point-to Point Serial Communication Link
  • Configurable to Loop/Ring Architecture (FC-AL)
  • ANSI Standard for Mapping Upper Layer Protocols: SCSI, ATM, TCP/IP & HIPPI
  • Path to 2 and 4 Gbps
  • Shipping HDD and LAN Systems Today

Gigabit Ethernet

Overview

  • 1.25 Gigabits per second (Gbps) Gigabit Ethernet Transceiver
  • Based on 802.3Z specification
  • Transmits serial data up to 1.25 Gbps
  • Operates with 3.3-V supply voltage
  • 5-V tolerant on TTL inputs
  • Interfaces with electrical cables/backplane or with optical modules
  • PECL voltage differential signaling load, 1 V Typ with 50 - 75 ohms
  • Receiver differential input voltage 200mV minimum
  • Device # TNETE2201
