Portable Point Cloud Generation for 3D Scanning using DLP® Technology Reference Design
TIDA-00361
Overview
The portable 3D scanning reference design employs the Texas Instruments DLP® Advanced Light Control Software Development Kit (SDK) for LightCrafter™ series controllers, which allows developers to easily construct 3D point clouds by integrating TI’s digital micromirror device (DMD) technology with cameras, sensors, motors or other peripherals. Ideal for compact or handheld solutions, this high resolution 3D scanner system utilizes the DLP® LightCrafter™ evaluation module (EVM), featuring the DLP3000 WVGA DMD, and enables flexible control of accurate patterns for structured light solutions in industrial applications.
Features
- 3D scanner solution utilizing the DLP3000 chipset to enable fast and programmable patterns
- Supports synchronized camera capture for both global and rolling shutter cameras
- Generic OpenCV camera module for flexible low cost applications
- Projector and camera calibration routine
- Structured light algorithms for disparity map, depth map and point cloud generation
- Implements both Gray code and hybrid three phase scanning techniques
Industrial
A fully assembled board has been developed for testing and performance validation only, and is not available for sale.
