ADVANCE INFORMATION
Daisy-chain operation links together the frame-sync port of multiple devices to reduce the number of DOUT pins in the system. The DOUT pins from one device connect to the DIN pins of another device, where the data are read. The data of the first device in the chain are read after the data from the last device are read. The DP_DAISY bit of the DP_CFG1 register enables the DIN pins for daisy-chain operation. Make sure the main clock and DCLK frequency of daisy-chained devices are the same. Synchronize the daisy-chained devices with the START pin.
There is no limit of daisy-chained devices, provided the DCLK frequency is sufficient to read the entire data set within a conversion period. The maximum DCLK frequency in daisy-chain mode is listed in the Specifications section. If daisy-chain is not enabled, DIN data are ignored and original channel data are repeated until new data are available.
Figure 7-36 shows a daisy-chain connection of two ADS127L18 devices configured in the four DOUT pin mode. This connection results in 16 channels of data packed into four DOUT pins. Figure 7-37 shows the output data format.
