Other power conversion applications require multiple power converters in parallel. A system can require multiple outputs from a single source. For example, a 48-V electric vehicle battery can require multiple synchronous buck converters in parallel for bi-directional battery charging applications. A typical design requires separate analog controllers for each power stage.
The UCD3138x devices increase efficiency and power density by controlling all power stages at once. By utilizing the 8 DPWM outputs, multiple power stages can be controlled in series. Thus, only one controller is needed to provide a system-level design.
The TIDA-00653 reference design provides an example for multiple parallel power stages controlled by one UCD3138x device.
