DALLAS (September 30, 1998) - Texas Instruments (TI), the world leader in analog and mixed signal, today announced a significant advancement in speeding memory architecture in next-generation PCs. TI is one of the first companies to deliver samples of a 400-MHz Direct Rambus™ Clock Generator (DRCG) to Rambus Inc. in July 1998.

"TI is working closely with Rambus Inc., PC industry leaders, and memory suppliers to bring Direct RDRAM memory architecture to market quickly. TI's DRCG solution includes signals to synchronize the Direct Rambus Channel clock to the system clock, significantly increasing the speed at which system memory communicates with the CPU (central processing unit). Working closely with Rambus and other industry leaders enables us to provide high performance clock driver solutions for emerging technologies", said Larry Blackledge, TI’s WW Business Manager for Bus Solutions.

"We have been working with 400-Mhz DRCG samples from TI since July, a crucial piece of the Direct Rambus Architecture. TI’s technology is helping to enable the Direct RAMBUS architecture that will unlock the performance in future PCs. Rambus validated the 400-MHz DRCG design which was a solid team effort between Rambus and Texas Instruments", said Allen Roberts, Vice President and General Manager for Rambus’ Memory and Technology Division.

TI is building on its leading reputation for PC100 clock solutions by delivering first-to-market Direct Rambus components. Teamed with its 133-Mhz Clock synthesizer TI is delivering a complete Direct RDRAM™-enabled motherboard solution.
