The IEC 62638-1 standard is applicable to the safety of electrical and electronic equipment within the field of audio, video, information and communication technology, and business and office machines with a rated voltage not exceeding 600 V and intended for domestic or professional use. The application of this Standard is intended to reduce the risk of injury and damage under normal conditions or abnormal conditions due to the hazards such as Electrical shock, Fire, Burn, Mechanical, Radiation, Chemical and others. The requirements of this Standard are intended to provide protection to persons as well as to the surrounding of the equipment. The safety requirements are very elaborate. Some of the main category requirements are shown in Table 8-1. There are many sub-requirements under each category.
