Board management controller (BMC)

The board management controller (BMC) manages the interface between system-management software and platform hardware. It provides intelligence for the Intelligent platform management interface (IPMI) system interfacing over the RS232, I2C and SMBUS to monitor and control items such as temperature, fan speeds, power status and so forth. A system administrator is able to use this information to take pre-emptive action before system failure can occur.
