Line Regulation

Line regulation is defined as change in the output voltage of a reference with respect to change in the supply voltage in the specified region. Line regulation error directly gets translated into gain error. This is critical for battery operated systems where input varies as the battery power goes down. A LDO with good line regulation spec is used as the supply for the reference to improve the line regulation performance of the system. This also applies to systems where the VIN varies on the input of the voltage reference due to other loads on the same rail.
