Overview

This reference design provides a means to isolate I2C or SPI communication lines. This is often required in grid infrastructure applications such as protection relays and circuit breakers where high voltages are involved. This reference design provides both power isolation and signal isolation.

Features
  • Designed to be adopted with designs requiring isolation for communication channels (transformer and motor / generator protection)
  • Designed to operate with 24-V auxiliary DC input (typical in smart grid)
  • Optimized for multiple isolated and non-isolated supplies using single converter
  • Capable of providing signal isolation of 2500 Vrms for one minute per UL and 4242 Vpk per VDE
