Signal input/output protection

Input and output modules usually use screw terminals to connect to field actuators over long cables. Those cables and connectors are subject to electromagnetic disturbances (EMC) that can either damage sensitive electronic or create false measurements. An effective signal protection scheme is necessary to comply with standards like the IEC61000. Transient voltage suppression (TVS) diodes offered by Texas Instruments and common mode chokes can help clamp and reduce harmful interference.
