Overview
This reference design demonstrates a method to control a continuous conduction mode Totem pole power factor correction converter (PFC) using C2000 F28003x and F28004x microcontrollers. The PFC also works as inverter in grid connected (current controlled) mode. The converter is designed to support a maximum input current of 16-ARMS and peak power of 3.6 kW. The LMG3522 top-side cooled GaN device with integrated driver and protection, enables higher efficiency and reduces power supply size and complexity. F28004x or F28002x based C2000 controller can be used for all the advanced controls such as fast relay control and reverse current flow protection. The design supports adaptive dead time for efficiency improvements, input cap compensation scheme for improved power factor at light loads, and non-linear voltage loop to reduce voltage spikes under transient in PFC mode.
