The PFC stage is required to shape the input current of the power supply and to meet the power factor and current THD norms such as 80 Plus/IEC61000-2-3. In addition, the PFC stage also enhances system performance by reducing RMS input current, facilitating power supply holdup and improving the efficiency of downstream converters.
