MOSFET Placement and Power Stage Routing

Placement of the gate driver and power MOSFETs is critical for correct functionality and optimal performance in for pre-driver motor drive solutions. For motor drivers with integrated MOSFETs, such as the DRV8870, DRV8313, DRV10987, DRV10983-Q1, and DRV8873-Q1, the proper routing is already done internally. For gate drivers, such as the DRV8701, DRV8304, DRV8306, DRV8323, DRV8343-Q1, and DRV8353, carefully planning the layout of the PCB and the placement of the power MOSFETs is important. The following sections describe some common MOSFET topologies and present basic layout examples using common motor drive architectures.
